installing CyanogenMod ROM

with a snappy overview guide. Learn and make your Android device more privacy-robust. In the example it's LG G2 - D802, which gets a tasty Marshmallow.

Prep Work (Do once for Marshmallow magic)

  • 0.0: For some models Bootloader Unlock is required, please inform yourself, whether your model is factory locked (like all iPhones).
  • 0.1: Flash a Bump-compatible Recovery. For TWRP fans, grab version 2.8.7.3.
  • 0.2: Update your bootstack. This bootstack plays nice with CM12.1 and CM13.

Main Installation

  1. Clean Sweep: Wipe system, data, cache, dalvik cache.
  2. CM13 Nightly Zip: Install from cyanogenmod (for LG G2 Global).
  3. GApps Galore: Snag a GApps zip pre-reboot from OpenGApps (arm/6.0/Aroma).
  4. Final Flush: Wipe Dalvik/Cache, then reboot and soar!

Post-Install Quirks

  • The Missing Restore Step: Sometimes, the CM and Google setup skips the Google backup restore step. Bypass this by opting out of the CyanogenMod "Wizard" using the AROMA Installer from OpenGApps. Check out all the tweaks here.

Key Steps to Follow:

  • Clean Slate, then Elevate: Wipe system, cache, data. Install ROM, then AROMA OpenGApps sans CyanogenMod Wizard. Wipe Dalvik+Cache. Reboot.

No more CyanogenMod Setup Wizard antics! Post-email configuration, you're in for a treat with the restore option!

Additional Tips

  • WiFi Woes: If WiFi acts up, forget the network, reconnect, or play around with the router settings. A guest network might be your savior. When in doubt, reboot and repeat.
  • TWRP Makeover: Personalize your recovery experience with a TWRP theme.

Happy Testing/Coding... and relish in the Material Design splendor on your fabulous Android device!

Refer to the XDA if you need support.
